The TVR M series was built between 1972 and 1979 and, as with other TVR models before, the M-series cars had a front-engine, rear-wheel drive layout and body-on-frame construction, with the bodies being built from glass-reinforced plastic (GRP). The series included a number of different engine sizes and types - 1600M, 2500M, 3000M, 3000S and Taimar, as well as some turbocharged versions. The first model to start production was the 2500M in March 1972, based around the 2½ litre, 6-cylinder Triumph engine found in the TR6 model. Around two and a half thousand M-series cars in total were produced. First registered as KCW 918N in April 1975, this TVR 2500M comes with a comprehensive history file, detailing service and maintenance since the early 1980’s, together MOT history confirming the mileage covered over the same period. The car was extensively rebuilt in the mid to late 1980’s, and there is a detailed breakdown of costs expended to May 1987, at which time the mileage stood at 77,988 miles. Following the restoration, the TVR stayed within the same family until 2015. It was imported to Jersey in 2021.
The TVR M series was regarded by contemporary reviewers as being loud, fast and having excellent road holding. This example of the 2500M is in very good condition; has a detailed history file and both drives and presents very well. The car currently wears a 4-digit Jersey registration which is not included in the sale.
An attractive design set off by the eye-catching Mist Green colour, the bodywork is in excellent condition. The specification is complimented by alloy wheels and a Webasto-type sliding sunroof.
The car interior has been finished in tan leather with beige carpet, which is in good condition. A modern, retro-looking radio (with mp3 playback) has been fitted.
Based on Triumph TR6 mechanicals, the normally aspirated engine performs very well, driving through the standard TR6 overdrive gearbox. The history file indicates that an uprated camshaft was fitted in the 80’s.
