Overview
Overall Comments

This is a very good example of a classic, sporting Jaguar saloon with a large history file, which includes UK MOT history and exhibition certificates. It is in excellent driving condition, ready for touring or local use.

Body

The body is free from corrosion and the metallic green paintwork is in fine condition, having very recently had attention to some small marks and blisters to bring it up to a high standard of finish. The brightwork is all intact and in good condition as are the chrome wire wheels fitted. The underside of the car only shows a little light surface corrosion.

Mechanical

This car is in excellent mechanical condition and drives very well, benefitting from the fitment of optional power steering. The car had a reconditioned auto-gearbox and converter fitted in 2018 and the front brakes refurbished in 2022. Whilst pancake air filters are currently fitted, the original filter casing is supplied with the car.

Interior

The pale green leather interior is in very good shape, the seats being only lightly patinated. The carpets too are in good condition and the headlining is excellent and fully intact. The dashboard as a whole is very good although the veneer does show some sign of age. An Astrali wood-rimmed steering wheel has been fitted, but the original is supplied with the car.

History

The Jaguar 420 (and its Daimler Sovereign equivalent) were introduced in 1966 and produced for only two years, with just over 10,000 made. It was developed from the earlier Jaguar S-Type, retaining its sophisticated independent rear suspension, but fitted with the larger 4.2-litre XK engine and given a modest re-style, with the S-Type curvaceous front squared-off, to better match the rear of the car (which was not altered from the S-Type).

As a sporting Jaguar saloon, the performance of the 420 was highly thought of at the time, with a top speed of more than 125 mph and 0–60 mph in under 10 seconds.

This particular car was first registered in the UK in January 1967. It underwent major renovation in 2009/10 before being imported to Jersey in 2017. Since then, it has racked-up limited mileage but been regularly maintained with any additional work carried out as required.
