Overview
Overall Comments

This is an excellent, original, low mileage example of one of the desirable V8-engined, R107 series SL Mercedes sports cars. It has recently been subject to a little light refurbishment to ensure it remains in an outstanding condition. The car is currently Guernsey registered and we can assist with shipping and importation processes if required. We can ship worldwide.

Body

The Arctic White paintwork is in excellent condition, with any small areas of corrosion and chips etc. having been addressed and corrected last year. Similarly, the underside is generally in very good condition, any minor corrosion found having been attended to and treated in 2023. The fitted hard top is in good order as is the convertible, soft top hood. The alloy wheels are very clean and the brightwork is all present and undamaged.

Mechanical

The car drives very well and has clearly been well looked after during its life. Most recently it had a routine service and some simple maintenance work completed in 2023.

Interior

The blue leather interior is in excellent condition, the seats showing little sign of age. The carpets, dash and instruments are in equally good condition, as might be anticipated with a genuine low mileage car.

History

The Mercedes-Benz R107 series sports cars were produced between 1971 and 1989, when replaced by the R129 series SL-Class, with around 240,000 built during that period. They were offered with a number of different engine options - initially just a V8, then a smaller capacity straight 6 as well.

The R107 used the chassis components of the midsize Mercedes-Benz W114 saloon series, but in a shorter-wheelbase, 2-seat, convertible/roadster style with standard soft-top, and optional hardtop. The body style did not materially change from their introduction in 1971 through to the end of production.

The 420SL model was available from 1985, fitted with a 4.2 litre V8 engine, Bosch fuel injection and a 4-speed automatic transmission. The car offered here was first registered, new in Jersey, in May 1987 and has spent most of its well-cared for life in the island, only recently moving to a new Guernsey-based owner, who has now decided to sample a different German marque. The low recorded mileage is genuine and can be verified from the service record held.
