Overview
Overall Comments

An early left hand drive MGA Roadster that has been well restored to a very good standard, with very good paintwork and contrasting beige trim. The car drives with no known faults and is in excellent order throughout, having recently been checked through our workshops with the benefit of additional work being carried out to prepare it for the road. These quintessentially British sports cars are great fun to drive and represent excellent value given the significant rise in prices of 1950’s British sports cars in recent years. This car would be ideal for using on the Continent or as a participant in historic rallies. This MGA is supplied with a V5C registration document, which at present time allows for easy registration in Europe.

Body

During the course of the restoration carried out in the US, the body work was restored to a high standard finished in MG Orient Red. The engine bay has a very authentic appearance, with the correct badges and decals in place.

Mechanical

Following the US restoration, the brakes, the front shock absorbers and trunnions were overhauled and a new distributor fitted in 2017. The gearbox was rebuilt in 2018. Since our purchase of the car, the following work has been carried out in our workshops: • brakes checked, cleaned and adjusted • carburettors cleaned, balanced and adjusted • the steering has been serviced • the ignition system serviced with a new rotor arm, and then tuned. • two new 6-volt batteries have been fitted. The car runs and drives extremely well.

Interior

The interior is well presented with beige seats and door cards with contrasting black carpets. The dashboard is correctly finished for the roadster version. The car has matching beige full weather equipment.

History

The MGA arrived in 1955 and represented a complete departure in styling for an MG sports car, with a wholly new, up to date, streamlined body. Additionally, it was powered by a new engine – the 1489ccfour-cylinder B-Series engine and transmission from the recently announced Magnette saloon. This engine was fitted with twin SU carburettors and produced around 70bhp, giving the car a top speed of nearly 100mph (on test) and 0–60mph acceleration time of around 16.0 seconds.

No early history is known for this export MGA Roadster, but it was repatriated to the UK from the US in 2013, having already been restored there. Further work has since been undertaken in the UK and the car has had additional servicing in our workshops since our purchase. It has covered only 1913 miles since being rebuilt.
