Leaving school in 1976, Ian was apprenticed to Bagot Road Garage at 16, the Island’s Renault franchise. He completed his apprenticeship and after 10 years joined Dave Carrell Engineering, who was well regarded not just in Jersey, but also in the UK as a leading rally car builder and driver, with Ford’s AVO cars being his speciality. Touched by the motor sport bug early on, Ian started race engineering by building and tuning race car engines. Before joining Le Riche Automobile in 2018, Ian was a mechanic with Forum Garage, the local Peugeot franchise, for 25 years. After a lifetime in the trade as a mechanical engineer, Ian has brought his engineering experience and wisdom to bear at Le Riche, restoring and maintaining some of the worlds finest classic sports cars. Ian is renowned locally as he built a well-known race car, a Jaguar E Type Series III V12 Coupe, known as the “Beast”, which has held numerous Jersey sprint and hill climb records in its class. Interestingly he also has a collection of methanol speedway / grass track motorcycles. Hobby wise, Ian collects automobilia and is regularly at the Le Mans Classic and other classic car race meetings and events. However, he likes to stress… it is not just about cars, he also has “green fingers” as he enjoys gardening in his down time.
