Overview
Overall Comments

In extremely original, unrestored condition, it is perfect for continued use, or possibly a respray back to the original Ice Blue. Following reconditioning after some thirty years off the road, it has been used this summer for touring in Europe, where the car has performed faultlessly. Aside from an older respray, it is an original matching numbers UK supplied car with possible Healey works connections, being originally supplied by the Healey Motor Company

Body

The bodywork has been subject to an older respray in light blue, the body work is original and has not been restored, it has a good panel fit, and has a strong underside with no sign of previous repair work, there are one of two small areas of corrosion, which would be expected in an unrestored car. The interior has the original blue leather seats, older replacement carpets to the front and gearbox tunnel, areas of original lighter blue carpet are retained behind the seats and in the boot area.

Mechanical

Recently recommissioned after remaining untaxed since 1988, the 100/4 has covered some 1600 miles this summer, without any incident or problem, mechanically the car is in very good order.

Interior

The interior has the original blue leather seats, older replacement carpets to the front and gearbox tunnel, areas of original lighter blue carpet are retained behind the seats and in the boot area.

History

After a successful period at the Cape, Warwick, producing the Riley-engined cars which bore his name, Donald Healey expanded into the American market with a series of cars with various American engines. In 1952 he formed a partnership with the Austin company of Longbridge to produce the Austin Healey which took the American market by storm. The Austin Healey 100/4 was introduced at the Earls Court Motor Show in 1952, and was a Healey designed chassis using many standard Austin parts, including the four cylinder 2.6 litre engine from the A90 Atlantic, coupled to its three speed gearbox. The bodywork was a radical up-to-date two seater, with a long bonnet and waterfall grille, and a windscreen which slid into a prone position on the scuttle for racing. The cockpit had a characteristic oval dashboard with full instrumentation and two racing type bucket seats with just enough room behind for an overnight bag, but the car also had a large but shallow boot, with the option of a rack on the boot lid for extra luggage. A well fitting hood and sidescreens completed the package. This car, OAC 536 was registered on the 5th November 1953, and the number is from a series of cars registered OAC by Donald Healey for works cars. Description and History Originally registered OAC 536 on the 5th November 1953, this matching numbers 100/4 is original and unrestored condition, the bodywork has been resprayed once in its life, now being light blue against the original ice blue. The Healey retains its original blue leather seats and matching blue door cards, with contrasting royal blue instrument panel and carpets. The mileage of 26461 is believed to be original, and the car still retains the original white Bakelite Healey ID plate on the right-hand foot well wall.
